Our History

Mary Elizabeth Nelson’s dream comes to life

At the early age of 5 (1937) I was influenced by a teacher I had at Overbrook Kindergarten. Sister Joan of Ark taught about how God loved me while we walked by the willow trees, the creek, the flowers. She filled my soul with the Divine perfume of nature.

40 years later my daughter Elisabeth was also a student at Overbrook. There was a celebration on the land. And there I saw sister Joan of Ark. I said, “Sister, you probably don’t remember me but I was in the first kindergarten class that Overbrook ever had. She replied “Betty (I was called Betty then) of course I remember you. Your mother came to find you up at school. And you were under the table. Your mother asked you why you were under the table. You replied, “Sister said God is everywhere. And I am down here looking for him.”

So all these many years I have wanted to cultivate my friendship with God. We are blessed with the opportunity to experience this on earth and in Heaven

I have a property called Rivendell.
I don’t own it because God created it.

My friend Randy Uselton, who helped me establish our Rivendell Spiritual Center, has described it so clearly saying, “It is a place where the air is thin and the structures are magical; a high holy place, yet humbling in a splendid atmosphere amidst the clouds as nature gently sings to the souls delight.

Rivendell spiritual center was created to be a space where spirited enlightenment and fulfillment are received as a gift to our souls. It is a place in time where the voices of peace and harmony can be shared, expanded, and reached – through the shared mystery of the true path of humanity.

I did not write this piece of poetry however it expresses how I feel.

If life is measured by the words we say - the love expressed along the way. If life is measured by the smiles we share - the kindest, the way we care.

I pray my life will be clearly shown by all these desires I hope to be known.

I do not own Rivendell.
It belongs to God.
